This is the first meeting of the semester for the AI Book Club! We will discuss our summer reading selection, Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro, as well as announce our book selection for the month of October. Join us monthly on Sunday afternoons at Amherst College to explore nonfiction (and the occasional fiction) on AI. Discussions, led by AILA students and guest faculty, will also continue online. Borrow your copy from Jones or Frost Libraries and be part of the conversation. Email: aila@amherst.edu to join the mailing list or for more information!

Our first book is Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. Kazuo Ishiguro analyzes our changing modern world and technology through Klara to explore the greater question of what it means to love. Klara is a solar-powered Artificial Friend(AF) and the narrator of the story. Klara is chosen by Josie, a sick child to be her companion and on-screen tutor.
